New Year, New Me...

Tuesday, January 4, 2011

I have never been a person to make New Years Resolutions, but this year I thought that I would give it a try, with a twist. I have been struggling a lot spiritually and emotionally as I have shared before, so I thought that I would do a cleanup of my life and try to get back to a productive state. I am not being super strict with all of this, but I am giving it a huge effort. Lets face it none of us like being in a state of numbness, so I am going to do things that make me happy and things that make me feel super productive.

All of this came about on my super long flight from Jacksonville to Los Angeles while reading the latest Real Simple titled Be Happier this year. It made me think about how much the God of the Universe desires that for me as well and how doing practical things along with completely surrendering the spiritual and emotional stuff over to God could totally change my life. So with the help of the Ultimate To Do List on Page 102-103 with a few modifications shaped out how I am going to start living life in 2011.

The resolutions that make me happy and help me to feel super productive (not zombie like) ...
1. Reading scripture daily
2. Cook dinner at least 3 nights a week (hoping leftovers can cover the other nights)
3. One night a week reading and not turning on a TV or computer
4. Send a friend a real piece of mail each month. (I love receiving cards or notes from friends and I thought what better way to stay in touch or to bring a smile to a friends face)
5. Exercise regularly - actually do the physical therapy that the doctor keeps assigning me....oops
6. Take my vitamins daily (I can't have dairy products, so supplements are the best option)
7. Live on a budget
7a. Clothing shop only when needed or if I have extra spending money
7b. Use our extra money to pay off debt
8. Blog on a regular basis about life
9. Ride a bike to run errands that are near by (when it gets above 60 degrees...its way to cold right now)
10. Live each day to its fullest.

The last one is the one I am most excited about. I don't think I have really done that since college and it was some of the best times of my life. To not worry about what tomorrow holds and to just live for the moment. Actually enjoy the conversations I am having with friends instead of thinking about the bazillion things I can do while I am on the phone with them. Just be in that moment fully alive and attentive to who I am with or what I am doing.

I hope each one of you (all 2 of you that read this) are able to look at 2011 in a new light as well. To let go of all the things weighing you down and allow the Lord to really move in you and shape you into the person He desires for you to be. Who knows what mountains you will move together!!

I will keep you all posted on my list and how it actually unfolds in my daily life!

Oh and check out the super cute "I can do this" button from my super talented friend Amick. He made it for his wife Christy, you can check out her amazing journey on her blog Fearfully-Wonderfully.

love the post and the new ideas.

I'm with you on shopping less, eating at home more and sending friends cards. Great ideas.

Love you friend. I'm excited for a new year for us both.
